Episode 65.1 - Amazing Spider-Man # 700 Wrapup

Before we proceed to the Atomic Fallout Society's 2012 End-Of-Year Wrapup or their futile attempt at a "Best Of" episode.

Dave and Brian proceed to talk about the most talked about Spider-Man issue in some time. In fact, this title is the FINAL and LAST title of the Amazing Spider-Man run. This is one title that definitely hits the fanboy in a sensitive spot. Dave and Brian proceed to make this as spoiler-free as possible but this is still one episode to listen to. Where's Tony? Let's just say that it will be awhile before he ever eats Mexican food or anything at Chipotle's for a long, long time.

In the meantime, enjoy this rather informative episode focused on Amazing Spider-Man # 700.

Episode 65 - Captain AWOL

This week finds our captain missing. Why? Who knows? But we still have Brian Smith and David Sabal running the show and they brought a good friend, Gregory "Darkseid" Holmes. Let the mayhem begin...

Dave reviews the latest Amazing Spider Man as we begin the countdown to the final issue, # 700. This week brings us # 699.1 which focuses on Moebius the Living Vampire who will play an important role in 2013 in the Marvel Universe. Our buddy Greg discusses the latest issue from the 30 Days of Night comic series. Yeah, we know it's Christmas, but so far, the Society wants to talk vampires, and this latest comic book is dark and a favorite for horror fans. Lastly, Brian talks about the latest Superboy comic. Why is he wearing Superman's armor? How was he actually created? What kind of ending are we looking at for this latest storyline? This storyline is worth talking about so far.

The guys also discuss the latest buzz and controversy surrounding Tony Harris and his latest comments about cosplay players. Pro or con?

Episode 64 - The "Evolution" Of Vertigo

Recently, the long-time editor of Vertigo Comics announced that she would step down, leaving an incredible legacy of titles under the fan-favorite DC imprint. What sort of an impact has Vertigo left the comic book industry? A pretty big one, as the AFS explains...

But first, Dave discusses the latest Amazing Spider-Man, and the countdown is on to the grand finale of the long-time title for Marvel comics. By the sounds of it, this finish is one for the books. Brian comes back this week with a strong Image title in Great Pacific. While he was left disappointed with last week's title pick, this week is strong... strong enough that Brian even mentions another Image title to pick up and consider. Tony reviews the newest and latest incarnation of the Thunderbolts. This isn't your usual group of misfits like in the past. In fact, this one will not only kick you in the a$$, this group will rip a piece out of it.

Episode 63 - 20 Questions With The AFS

It's crossover week as the Society welcomes special guest Jacob O'Neal from The Gorram Nerd Hour, and we get to play 20 Questions! The game turns out to be interesting with a slight controversial finish. You decide...

In the meantime, Brian reviews a title from Image Comics that actually left a bad taste in his mouth, at least it confused him somewhat. Exactly what is "Nowhere Men"? If YOU figure it out, at least get back to Brian to explain it to him. Tony reviews the latest Chew and this one is a doozy and one that Chew fans will never forget, as it sets up a new and upcoming storyline. Lastly, Dave proclaims that he is the LAW... in other words, he reviews the newest issue of Judge Dredd. Slight problem, however, this issue was released LAST WEEK. You think that's a topper? Wait until you hear what Dave says afterwards...

That and all of the week's latest comic book topics.

Episode 62 - Welcome To The Digital Age... Mother F'er

The Sabal boys make their triumphant return to The Atomic Fallout Society and bring angst and rage with them. David Sabal starts off by discussing the much-anticipated AND rumored story run of Amazing Spider-Man. If you have been reading and believing what you have seen on the net regarding our favorite web-slinger, then either your wishes (or fears) have been confirmed. Tune in to find out what Dave thinks. Tony talks about the latest Hawkeye issue and it's good ole-fashioned and old-school Nick Fury/S.H.I.E.L.D. fun, but is it worth showcasing a character like Hawkeye? Hmmm...

Brian discusses the latest Catwoman and how it plays a part in the "Death Of The Family" storyline. Does it give hints to where this is going to end up? But that's only the tip of the iceberg for our professor as he goes on a rant...no, a RAMPAGE, regarding retailers who take a stand against digital comics. All we can say is that Brian is NOT happy.

Episode 61 - Tony, Exit Stage Left...

Tony has to leave early, so what does that mean? That means that Brian and Dave get to drive the show wherever they want it to go... stay tuned.

In the meantime, Tony still gets to make a review, and this week, he talks about the latest Daredevil: End of Days. Bottom line: Daredevil's dead, so why's everyone still talking about him? Brian talks about the latest title from Image Comics, Storm Dogs. Think Avatar when you are reading this one. Dave talks about the latest Earth 2 title from DC Comics. This ain't your typical JSA that they are slowly returning to the DC storylines.

Lastly, there are random subjects like what is considered Alan Moore's best work? Uncanny Avengers is delayed AGAIN, and Dave and Brian discuss their latest project that caused us to move this show to the weekend...

Episode 60 - Higher Learning With The AFS...

This week, the guys review some really solid titles and books. In fact, this episode marks the first time where all three titles got high marks since Brian joined the show. First, Tony discusses A+X's first issue. If you loved the classic Marvel Two-In-One or Marvel Team-Up issues, you will enjoy this run. Just imagine some of your favorite Avengers/X-Men characters teaming up, especially after Avengers vs. X-Men but don't tell Dave about that. Speaking of Dave, he gives tribute to Joe Kubert, who some people would argue as being one of the most important creators in comic book history. DC Comics launches a special 6-issue tribute to Mr. Kubert, and Dave discusses his contribution to the industry. Lastly, Brian talks about Superman: Earth One, Volume 2, the follow-up to the acclaimed Volume 1 title. It's a different take on the Superman mythos and characters in this world, but it's a creation worth following...

The guys discuss the breaking news that the "Mighty Mouse" aka Disney has added the "Empire" aka Lucasfilm to their arsenal. What does this mean... more importantly, will we see Han Solo AND Donald Duck in the same storyline? Heads will explode with the possibilities on this one.

Lastly, the "Professor" Brian Smith teaches us yet again an important piece of work that all comic book fanboys/fangirls need to learn and live... this week, Mark Waid's Kingdom Come is discussed and dissected for study. This is a classic tale of superbeings faced with moral dilemmas that impact their world like never before... get educated on this classic title.

Lastly, Dave talks about the finale of the Matt Fraction Iron Man run and what we can expect in the near future for our favorite shellhead.

The guys talk about comic book movies and debate who f'd up and who didn't. They also talk about their favorite egomaniac, Rob Liefeld and his "retirement". The Society wants to make it known that we support local independent talent, and checking out this exhibit is a great way to show that support. Episode 58 - Nomads No More

The AFS finally settle on a permanent home, i.e. someplace is actually liking the idea of having them around more often, which is absolutely astonishing. Tune in to find out...

The guys have their usual reviews in the meantime. Dave starts off by celebrating acclaimed creator John Layman and the newest issue of Chew. If you haven't read it, you really need to start, 'cause it is one of the most consistently awesome titles out there now. Tony surprises everyone by following up with another awesome title: The Walking Dead. If you like the TV show, you will LOVE the actual comic book. In fact, the last couple of issues have been... brutal. And this one is going to lead to a head-smashing climax... literally.

Brian talks about the latest Justice League and the "re-introduction" of a classic DC villain. However, this villain has such an interesting twist that you will have to pick up and start reading. It's Geoff Johns for crying out loud.

Lastly, the guys talk about various topics like the ever-changing outfit that Superman is wearing, the Oscar odds for the Dark Knight Rises and the inevitable fate of one Peter Parker.

Episode 57 - The Cup Runneth Over...

Coming to you LIVE from Gotham City Comics and Coffee during 2nd Friday festivities, it seems that the wrath and anger from the last episode has lingered and found its way into this one... you've heard an angry Dave... now prepare for angry Tony.

"The Professor" Brian Smith starts us off with a review of the newest Phantom Stranger # 1 from Dan Didio. The Stranger will be a key player for some key DC storylines, and this title is a great jumping-off point for fans needing to know the story behind this popular character. Tony ATTEMPTS to give his review on Uncanny Avengers # 1. He should have known that even mentioning the already-completed Avengers vs. X-Men storyline was going to spark some controversy but NO ONE saw what was going to happen next... and we're talking what Tony did on this show.

Dave gives his review of the FINAL (yeah, that's right), FINAL issue of Fantastic Four from Jonathan Hickman. It's a great send-off to the first family of Marvel Comics and worth a pickup.

As for Tony... well, you'll have to tune in and hear his whining...we mean, wrath.

Episode 56 - The Horror of Avengers vs. X-Men

The guys broadcast their latest show LIVE from the Rapture Horror Expo this past weekend from the Mesa Convention Center. Aside from using new equipment, things are business as usual...

Tony reviews the latest Detective Comics, which marks award-winning creator John Layman's debut with the long-time title. From the sounds of it, John definitely starts off his run on a high note. Brian reviews the latest Action Comics and the return of a long-time fan favorite character... except for Brian, of course. This one is going to the dogs... literally.

Lastly, Dave goes on a warpath. His anger and frustration grows with the conclusion of Avengers vs. X-Men. How bad? We were actually worried that we might get thrown out of the con because of Dave's naughty language and threats of violence. Don't believe us? Listen to this one and you'll see how angry Dave gets.

The guys also talk about their past road trips to Comikaze and the Las Vegas Comic Expo. Which was better? You might be surprised...

Episode 55 - All Things "Jack Rabbit"...

This week features special guests Jim Hanna and Jon Goff, creators of Jack Rabbit, out currently on digital format through digital.comicsplusapp.com. Jack Rabbit is the story of Jackson "Jack Rabbit" Quaid, a private investigator in 1930's Los Angeles. The book is described as more of a "pop noir" thriller. Don't know what that is? You better listen to this episode then to get yourselves educated.

The boys also have reviews, but these aren't any typical reviews. These reviews end up raising some eyebrows. Are you a stickler for traditional comic book mythos? Do you like to keep your long-time origins intact no matter what? This week's reviews for Superman #0 AND The Dark Knight #0 might "upset" you then. At least Tony decided to review Happy from Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson. It's not quite your typical gritty dark crime drama....unless you want to talk about blue...nevermind, listen to this week's episode and you'll find out.

Episode 54 - Point/Counterpoint

This week, Dave hits a nerve with Brian, and it leads to the very first AFS Point/Counterpoint segment ever. Who comes out on top? Listen to find out...

Dave also reviews the final issue of Spider-Men. You know, the one where Peter Parker meets Miles Morales. How this story ends sets up an interesting storyline for the future of Spider-Man. Brian discusses the DC 52 Zero Issue for Supergirl. Who is she and where exactly did she come from? Questions will be answered in this one. Lastly, Tony discusses the Zero Issue for Justice League, which happens to center around the origin of Shazam. This time, Billy Batson isn't as good as we usually think he is. In fact, Tony thinks he's a little douche...

The guys discuss death in comic books, especially coming off of the talked-about death in the last Avengers vs. X-Men. Death really isn't what it seems in the comic book world, but what is considered the most significant death so far in comic book history?

Finally, the boys intro a new podcast to the Abnormal Entertainment family... tune in to find out the details.

Episode 53 - Educating The Society

Co-conspirator Brian Smith helps introduce a new segment to educate everyone on a title or book that deserves attention or should be considered mandatory reading for all. This week, Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra's Y: The Last Man is today's lesson.

We have reviews as Brian discusses the DC zero issue for Superboy and Tony reviews a brand-new DC zero title, Team Seven. Dave goes on his own path and decides to talk about the Victories from Dark Horse. It's a little like the Watchmen and just as dark... maybe even darker?

Lastly, since the Society is headed to Los Angeles this weekend for Stan Lee's Comikaze, we decide to talk about the almighty Stan Lee's contribution to the comic book industry but more importantly... is he still relevant compared to what the industry is now today? How would today's comic book industry react to Stan Lee today? The answer may surprise you...
